Never understood how the AIDS epidemic was/is the government’s fault
A lot of people say the government didn’t officially make a statement on AIDS and how it was transmitted soon enough, but sexual contact and drug use were generally considered the primary factors of transmission. When it did it advocated for an abstinence style avoidance of the disease.
People often treat it as a quasi LGBT genocide but honestly not fucking 18 strangers is probably a better way to avoid AIDS than wearing a condom.
They basically ignored its existence because it only affected the gay community, and this was when Reagan was running the show.
The militant LGBT activists of the time, literally started pos-ing straight women purposefully to spread the disease into the straight community, and get the govt to react, which it did.
Anyhow, this all ignores that basically any medical professional who had anything to do with the disease advised their patients to remain absitent, monogamous, or at the very least to wrap up - and the gay community flat out rejected all of those options, opting instead to knowingly cruise for strange dick without any protection.
Like most things, they did this almost entirely to themselves (and continue to do so) but have to blame someone else for it.
